Claessens has recently turned his 30 year art practice to the tension between Nature and Culture. He approaches this dialogue through the idiom of entomology and obsessive classification.
Using insect storage boxes as the primary vehicle for his art, Claessens presents delicate and pure “stories” through the arrangement of his real and imagined hexapoda.
The series “La Petite Parade: Nomen Nescio” was on show during our 2017 Summer exhibition “wave/particle”.
Claessens (°Vilvoorde, 1947) lives and works in Belgium.
